Mahsa Ghavamian Head shot

Our Story

My name is Mahsa Ghavamian. I live in Hopkinton with my husband, Alan, of 13 years, and my 11-year-old daughter. We moved to Hopkinton about 7 years ago, and it almost immediately felt like home.

I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran, and moved to the United States right after I graduated from high school. My parents insisted that I move to the United States to achieve a better quality of life and a top-notch education. I received my bachelor’s degree at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, and my master’s degree at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I returned to Northeastern University for a Postgraduate Degree in HR management, which led me to a full-time career path in many private and non-profit organizations in the Boston area.

In January 2019, I launched my new business, Canvas n Cup in Milford, MA, and it all started with a desire to spend more time doing something fun with my daughter.

I bought some canvases, and started painting at home, while waiting for dinner to get ready! When my daughter saw how much fun I was having, she wanted to paint with me, instead of watching shows on her iPad! She followed my instructions step by step and, boom -- she had a masterpiece of her own making. My then 7-year-old became an artist, just like that. I bought her a small easel, then some canvases, and right there on that small kitchen counter, we created our very own art studio. Watching how my daughter reacted to the opportunity to be creative, and to engage with me in this activity, inspired me to create a space in town where families can pull away from their individual screens, and do something affordable and fun as a family.

I figured, if my daughter and I can do this together and have so much fun, why not create a space where other parents, children, friends, community groups –
everyone – can do the same. If my daughter and I can become artists, so can everyone else!
